Smart Streets

If you get a chance to see the new Josie Heights housing development near 12th and Lloyd in Milwaukee, please take some time to do it.  It's a very small area, and very few homes have been built, but the stormwater management design is very impressive.  Driving over interlocking permeable pavers is pleasant experience.  It would be wonderful to have such design elements in our community.

About Tim Fojtik

I moved to Shorewood in March 2006. I am an educator and I work at Lakeland College near Sheboygan. My main area of expertise is teaching English as a second language, but I also work extensively with native-born, native English speaking Americans, many of whom are considered "under-prepared" for college. Throughout my career, I have worked with students from all ages and an extremely wide variety of backgrounds. I am originally from Cudahy, Wisconsin. Since leaving Cudahy about 20 years ago, I have lived in Minneapolis, Boston, Jaslo (Poland), Bratislava (Slovakia), San Francisco, Florence (South Carolina), Columbia (South Carolina), Oak Park (Illinois) and the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee. So far, Shorewood seems to be a good fit for my family and me. My wife, Lynn Tomaszewski, is an artist and professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. One of my daughters will be 12 years old this year and the other daughter will be 3. We live in an old brick house near the geographic center of the village. I have grown to greatly appreciate what my various locales, students and family have taught me. These experiences have created the lens through which I plan to share my thoughts with the ShorewoodNOW.com community.
