Don't have family here but am the monkey in the middle - friends' parents are counselors, old friends are golden, and new friends refreshing. I'm a grad student, visual artist, and humorist. I plan to tell it like it is, from Shorewood to the surrounding areas. Inspirations are Gilda Radner's Roseanne Rosanna Danna, Jon Stewart and Suzanne Rosenblatt, whose blogs inspired me to write.

Totally politically incorrect, but it was satisfying nonetheless.

I would say that an entirely local effort to clean up our wonderful natural resource, and get everyone involved in a party you can actually walk to, can only be a good thing. Let he who never disposed of a paper plate or plastic cup throw the first stone... then again, removing stones from their natural environment to toss could be ecologically damaging, so maybe we should just have some fun, pick up our litter, and encourage everyone to have a great time dancing to the bands and bonding around the bonfire.

I checked my car door at several locations along Oakland and found it was kept from opening more than a few inches at all of them.

I understand from other sources that this same design was used along curbs in parts of downtown Milwaukee, with the same restrictive results. In reality, the 'design' is fine, if used in a different 'location', say on a plaza. It's the choice to locate these along curbs that's causing the hassles we're experiencing. I agree with Nancy, it's time for SOMEone to take responsibility and remedy the situation! I just hope it's not a Britney Spears 'oops, I did it again' moment and we taxpayers end up paying for an avoidable oversight!

The question is, who is ultimately responsible for the design flaw? The Village Board (who would understandably think the design is okay if they saw it used at Bayshore), the designer--or the company who constructed the cement walls just a tiny bit differently? Whoever it is needs to step up and take responsibility, and start fixing the problem.

The Men's Club always does a great job with that gathering and I was sorry we missed it, but when I heard the beer tent attempted to become airborne, well...?!?

For the basement, I think gloves and bleach are the more recommended tools, along with waterproof footwear. Hopefully the NEXT Dad's Day will be less involved with cleanups and disease prevention, eh??

I think the point of this blog is to reveal identifiable and relatable daily issues of a local woman/artist/mom/wife/alumnae. Heck, if I wanted to make all the roadblocks in my life comparable to the true horrors of the world, I'd never have a comedy routine, just an unending need to join the Peace Corps or live in a box and give all my worldly possessions to charity. It's all about context, Dave. But I do agree that it is a far better thing to kvetch about lugging the kids around than to worry about them starving.

You make it sound like such a chore to go shopping with the kids --- my mother had 7 to shop with --- I had two --- isn't it great to be born in a place (USA) where the big problem of the day is how long the kids sleep and when you shop --- rather than worrying about where the next meal for the kids will come from ?

When I got out and asked if they would exchange phone numbers, the husband got in my face about how it was an accident, at which point I mentioned that I was relieved his wife hadn't done it on PURPOSE! In the end, I decided that arguing w/morons just gives them the chance to drag you down to their level and walked away! In your case, you are certainly FULLY within your rights to expect to have your damage, no matter what size, repaired to your satisfaction! If witchy-wife doesn't care if HER car has dings and dents, that's HER right, but it is NOT her right to try to impose her opinion on others!
