A NOT-SO-SILENT VILLAGE HALL

Kevin Buckley is to be congratulated on his recent posting chosen as the Best of the Blogs for the week. He is a blogger on Whitefish BayNOW and wrote about a proposal for development on Silver Spring, former Talbots/Famous Foot location.

He is to be commended for this clear and thoughtful explanation of this situation as well as for his opinions, especially as I agree with him.

This site has too much community value to be given over to the first one coming along. A little patience will produce a more appropriate development. Perhaps the Village can come up with suggestions.

I found it interesting that the village manager e-mailed Kevin and included the letter from the would-be developer, obviously so that Kevin could inform the community. This kind of early information distribution and easy relationship between Village Hall and bloggers in Shorewood is not quite the same.

Thank you for pointing out the blog.  It was a very interesting read, especially regarding the types of businesses WFB is looking to recruit.  As I read comments to the blog, I noticed a lot of pretty positive comments about Shorewood, one from the blog's author!  I guess the grass is always greener...

Cranky: The Kiosk parking meter thing has been squashed.   Read here:

As for the other comments .. there's no doubt in my mind that Silver Spring needs a facelift.  At a minimum, the sidewalks, streets, planters, curbs .. they are all crumbling and in total disrepair.

Whether cool streetscaping will generate more shoppers is a valid question, though.  My guess is: Yup.  That's why zillions of communities do it.  -- Your point about the mixture of retail, restaurants, etc .. that's right on.  Shorewood has done a superlative job.  Maybe we could rent their leadership for a few years?

Thanks for reading, and writing in!
