The old man in his space.   Where and  when?  Oakland Avenue in Shorewood. Saturday morning. Sunny spring day. Clutter of police cars.  Man in handcuffs.  Street in construction.  Sand, dirt and stones on walkway.

Salute a friend. Tables and chairs along walkway present images of Europe. Holes in the street. Pedestrian crossings. Brown tile. Some cars stop. Some people wave. Some say hello. Some self-engrossed.

Old man on Oakland, in time and space, painting the scene. Smell of curry. Heavy construction equipment at rest, lining the street, on holiday until Monday.

Parking lot.   Woman with balloons to be fitted in back seat area. Floating out. Out of control. Helped push them in. Fun. Thought of man in handcuffs. Quick. summary of a 20-twenty minute slice of  an old man's life.

Few minutes later, with gift at convocation. Young lady, only a baby a few moments ago in time. Now on way to medical school.   Time flies but stands still at convocation for two and half hours.

Later on in the day,  talk of Russians. Thoughts of drinking. Vodka in Germany at end of war. Old man in space. Saturday afternoon. Thoughts of time. . .  and meaning.

Newspaper  :   "people dying in Asia. People dying in Iraq."  People dying and people ready for life. Crosswalks. Dust and construction. Time and events.  Man going to jail.  Old man thinking.  Moments in time.
