Who would you guess?

Joe Adam says “that we are going to have an election on 'all fools day' and perhaps all elections should appropriately take on that significance.”

As a cartoon this sentiment would not seem too objectionable as to its overall and long term significance. If we could consider this then to be a “verbal cartoon” then perhaps it would be O.K. too.

Verbal cartoons'' which Joe Adams is going to begin dabbling in, need to be considered as to the total weight that they may carry.

This same message as a sketch is laughed at and soon forgotten, but words are not. Words in themselves are symbols and used over and over again, carrying along both their original meanings and what they have acquired with their various usages in different circumstances.

What is more, words can be quoted and persons names must be mentioned when indicating individuals, while characterization of their features are sufficient in sketch cartoons.

A conventional cartoon must be described to others in words, unless it can be seen or viewed as a total picture. The ultimate conventional cartoon is the one that needs no words. If this is to be attained, it of course requires a total understanding by the viewers.

Describing daily sun rises in words alone can never give the full significance of the real event. Viewing sky and lake in their various colors creates a spiritual event. Words alone can not produce this spirituality. It requires presence.

Even with this caution, Joe is never-the-less going to begin his cartoons as of the present and they shall be among these postings from time to time. For those who have never met Joe Adams, he too is part of this verbal cartooning and he is a fictional character.

Based on Joe Adam's proclamation that he is going to be the perennial opposition candidate in Shorewood, if his name were shown in opposition on the ballot on all fools day, Joe Adam would have to be written-in at least 15 times. So make sure you write it in at least a few times.

One of Joe's cartoons in sketch form labeled “unopposed” would show voters who had written his name on the ballot 15 times with one arm in a sling.

Another of Joe's cartoons, if they were sketches would indicate all except two unopposed or partially unopposed Shorewood trustees kicking out ballot boxes, ballots and all.

A possible cartoon after the election might show the unopposed president of the Board asleep in his chair and a certain unopposed Trustee pushing him out of his chair and taking over. Who would you guess?
