The Germantown Recreation Department offers a wide variety of activities to choose from.  To go along with those amazing activities, we also have some cool camps.  One such camp is the girl’s basketball camp.  It is for girls going into grades 4 – 9.  Camp will emphasize the fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting, footwork, rebounding, defense, and team play.  In addition, lessons on character building and leadership will be presented.  Daily activities will include: large and small group instruction/drills, competitive contests and games.  Quality instruction and demonstration will be provided by Coach Stuve and members of the GHS varsity girls basketball team.  All campers will receive a T-shirt.  Camp runs Monday, July 14th through Friday, July 18th.  For grades 4 – 5, it will be 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Grades 6 – 9 will go from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m.  All camps will be held at the Germantown High School Main Gym.  The fee for either camp is $42/Res., $63/Non-res. & School Dist. Res.

We also have summer flag football camps available.  They are for boys going into grades 1 – 6.  The 1st & 2nd grade camp will focus on the basic skills of flag football.  All 1st/2nd grade coaches are welcome to come and participate.  It is a one day camp on Monday, July 14th.  The fee is $15/Res., $23/Non-res. & School Dist. Res.  Camp for grades 3 – 6 will focus on fundamentals of flag football.  The goal is to help the players develop team concept skills such as passing, ball carrying, catching, punting, blocking, stance and flag pulling.  This camp is Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17.  The fee for this camp is $20/Res., $30/Non-res. & School Dist. Res.  All camps will run from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Friedenfeld Park.

Another spectacular season of track comes to an end

Another wonderful track season has come to a close.  The children had fun, used up some of their energy, and parents cheered them on as they ran, jumped and/or threw.  All this would not have been possible without the help of our amazing coaches.  Thank you so much to all of you especially to Coach Cynthia and Jeff De Vor for running the program.  You all did such an awesome job!!!

By Park & Recreation Department
Wednesday, Jun 4 2008, 10:36 AM

Do you like playing with your camera?  Do you like to win things?  The Germantown Recreation Department has just the thing for you.  We are looking for your photos for our “Take Time for Fun” Photo Contest.  Send us your pictures of Park & Recreation events or within Germantown Parks and see if you’ve got what it takes.

The first place photo will be featured on the cover of an upcoming brochure and receive a prize basket.  Second place will make an appearance in an upcoming brochure and receive a prize basket.  Third place will make an appearance in an upcoming brochure.

To submit a photo:

  • Photos MUST be submitted by email to parkrec@village.germantown.wi.us
  • Include your name, address, phone number, date photo was taken, location and a short description (include names of participants if applicable)
  •  A minimum 6 mega pixel (2816 x 2112 pixels) digital jpeg file is needed
  • REMEMBER: ONLY PHOTOS OF PARK & REC EVENTS OR WITHIN GERMANTOWN PARKS WILL BE ACCEPTED
Tips to keep in mind when considering an entry:
  • Group or audience photos do not capture the event well – often too much to look at and the focal point gets lost
  • Look for color contrasts that will do well if photo is enlarged
  • Scenery photos do well – we would love to see amazing pictures of our parks
  • When taking pictures of individuals try to get close if you are featuring them doing something intricate.
Get your photos in soon!  The entry deadline is Friday, June 27th.
