Burned Torso Identified as That of Registered Sex Offender
By Beth Boehne  Nov. 8, 2007

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP
, Mich. (AP) — Residents along a cul-de-sac told police they saw a small fire near the spot where the burned and beheaded body of a convicted sex offender was found.

Police said the fire was seen Wednesday night near Hidden Ridge Drive about 20 miles northwest of Detroit in Northville Township, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday. The body of Daniel Gene-Vincent Sorensen, 26, of River Rouge, was found about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the end of the cul-de-sac by a township sewer and water department crew, according to the Free Press and The Detroit News.

He was identified by the Michigan State Police through a fingerprint taken from his burned hand. The print also revealed Sorensen had been a registered sex offender in Illinois.Sorensen's head has not been found and a cause of death has not been released.

"Who would do something like this to my son? It's not real to me right now," said his father, Jim.

Sorenson, of River Rouge, worked as a bar bouncer, his father told WJBK-TV.The criminal sexual conduct charge stemmed from a relationship the younger Sorenson had had with an underage girl, his father said. His sex offender status was "a cloud that hung over his head," his mother Kim told WXYZ-TV.

"He was a good person ... but he had a rough life," Kim Sorenson said

Okay … Did I read that correctly???

"He was a good person ... but he had a rough life."

You know . . . this person, Kim Sorenson, is kind of like one of those jurists in California.

Do you know the ones I’m talking about?

T
he ones who sit through a trial that goes on for month, after month, after month.

Where someone like Michael “NOT GUILTY” Jackson  or O.J. “NOT GULITY” Simpson

is found NOT GUILTY.

 Hello . . .   Anybody home??????

Excuse me while I spin my head around a couple of times,

get a little nauseated and then become

UNGLUED "

Sheeesh!

What do you think?

Janet:

I'm certain that you're not saying that we should follow Detroit's lead in treatment of sex offenders...

Steve,

I will be glad to give my opinion when a reader asks it of me.  And so you have.

The answer if course, is I am not advocating any such treatment as this of a sex offender or ANY human being.  I am simply bringing the readers a news story.

I do not agree with the murder of Jeffrey Dahmer either.

My headline, which I originally repeated in my post and have since removed, because it is not the focus of my blog, is questioning whether sex offenders read FranklinNOW.

There have been several blogs in the last few days relating to the issues in Franklin.  So I wonder, do they get read?  Maybe, maybe not.

This article shows how vigilante some other sick, demented, to quote Fred Keller, “MONSTER” could be.  I would hope there would be no such person in Franklin or in our area.

My distain in my blog is shown at Kim Sorenson for her comment.  Yes, true, she lost her son in a horrible manner.  But, it is the comment about, "He was a good person ... but he had a rough life" that rubs me the wrong way.  What about the victim?  It's never about the victim.

BUT ... if I were a sex offender in any city in the U.S. and read this story from Michigan, I would be scared.  If I were someone like Jeffrey Dahmer in prison, I would be scared.  If someone is sick enough to do these acts of murder we know there are others out there who can also do it.  If the media flashes a convicted sex offenders photo everywhere, you better be scared.

So, while I know my POST is going to be controversial.  I do in no way condone what took place in Michigan.  I MAKE THAT CLEAR.  And I am glad I live in Franklin and not in NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Michigan.

I was baiting you for your second paragraph!  I knew it would be there.  What I found interesting and entirely expected was Billy Lee Morford on Channel 6 last night.  In early newscasts they showed him ranting at Myra Sanchick out on the street... angry, animated, on the verge of violence... all without his oxygen...  then later, when interviewed (ostensibly by appointment) he appears with his oxygen and dog... as a "human" begging to be left alone.  He perfectly played prosecutors and Judge Wagner a year ago, now he played Ch. 6.

These guys are pathological in their manipulation of children and everyone else.

If i may; I think I can boil this down for readers.

Janet is NOT advocating anything.  She's merely passing along information, and to me, she simply sounds like a concerned citizen who is anxious about a fellow-Franklin citizen's safety.  Kind of like Judge John Franke...

While I am not a proponent of vigilantism, I do advocate the death penalty, especially in the case of an adult that commits a sexual crime against a child.

These MONSTERS steal something from their victims that their victim will never get back, even after years of therapy.

Bryan -

I am also FOR Capital Punishment.

Can you clarify for me ...  Death penalty for "adult that commits a sexual crime against a child" or if it results in the death of a child?

Isn't it also amazing how inconsistent "punishment" is for different crimes?  It's really unbelievable.  You have people who have commited murder (i.e. Mary Winkler) who have gone to prison for less time than Martha Stewart did.

Thanks!

Janet

My clarification is the death penalty for a sexual crime against a child. I wanted to stay on subject and could discuss the death penalty for other crimes.

Rape and sexual crimes, are crimes that permanently scar the victim for life, actually killing a part of them. I have seen this in a person that is close to me. Time and therapy do not totally heal this assault on a victims soul.

We still refer to the perpetrator as IT as it does not deserve to be acknowledged as a person.

Bryan,

I totally see where you are coming from and UNDERSTAND.

I'm sorry for your, and your loved-ones pain.
