You Want Me To Lose Weight?...Pay Me!

There’s no denying that we have an obesity problem in our country.

We love to eat.

The purpose of eating is to supply your body with enough energy to perform its functions.

But we eat for many reasons other than that....

Boredom.

Satisfaction.

Excitement.

Entertainment.

Taste.

Because it's there....

Some of us are lucky and don't put on pounds.

Some of us are diligent and exercise as you are "supposed" to do.

Others of us put on the pounds and become obese and a statistic.

Some of us try diets.

All types of diets.

Most of those diets fail.

What if....

What if you were offered an incentive?

What if our government offered to PAY YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT?

Would that make a difference?

Would that be enough incentive for you to finally do something about your weight?

That's just what England is going to do for their citizens!

Obese and overweight adults in England are going to be offered to be paid to lose weight under government plans being considered.

Britain is striving to be the first nation to reverse the obesity rate.  Within the next 12 years they also want to reduce the rate of obese children back to the rates they were in the year 2000.

Their plan for adults is to offer them money and gifts and other incentives for losing weight.

Here are their key plans:

• Individual and company incentives to encourage a healthier lifestyle with payments, vouchers for leisure centers under consideration.

• New target to reduce childhood obesity to the levels of 2000. The present rate is 30 per cent and rising each year.

• Compulsory cooking lessons in secondary schools by 2011 and healthy packed lunch policies in all schools.

• A $75 million marketing campaign to inform parents of the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity.

• $140 million to improve cycling facilities for children in areas where childhood obesity is a particular problem.

• The NHS Choices website to develop personalized advice services on diet and activity.

• More NHS weight management programs to be commissioned.

• Promotion to make breastfeeding the norm with a national helpline and a code of practice for employers.

• Development of a single food labeling system to be used by all supermarkets.

• $30m for healthy towns projects where walking, cycling, parks and use of stairs instead of lifts is incorporated into buildings and the environment.

Would YOU be encouraged to lose weight if YOU were given incentives by our government?

Would YOU participate?

Is this a good idea, particularly regarding children?
