Trouble! Right There in Vermont! Updated

By Janet Evans

"Wackjobs?"  "Nuts?"

Seems that 's what people (besides me) think of Brattleboro, Vermont citizens who have been circulating a petition to have Bush and Cheney arrested for War Crimes if they ever set foot  in their state.

One upset person who emailed the town officials even suggests there might be something in their water that led them to go to such extremes!  Ha!  That's a thought.

Read the story from Yahoo.news

Vermont Anti-Bush Petition Lambasted   Ã here

These fruitless efforts by shameless Bush-haters, along with those who have promoted similar efforts in the past in other cities across the United States, including  in Wisconsin, need to come to a stop.

Shameless because they are wasting the time and resources of all taxpayers.

As sad as that is, what is even more sad is that these people haven't got a clue about the laws of impeachment.

They haven't got a clue of what real War Crimes were or are.

It just goes to show you, more time needs to be spent on history and civics in high school and college.

I'm sure Vermont won't be the last state with people who need to get a life who come up with new ways to hate Bush before he leaves office.

This is going to be an interesting ten months ahead of us.

Brattleboro to vote on arresting Bush, Cheney

January 26, 2008

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont.

The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 Friday to put the controversial item on the Town Meeting Day warning.

According to Town Clerk Annette Cappy, organizers of the Bush-Cheney issue gathered enough signatures, and it was up to the Select Board whether Brattleboro voters would consider the issue in March.

Cappy said residents will get to vote on the matter by paper balloting March 4.

Kurt Daims, 54, of Brattleboro, the organizer of the petition drive, said Friday the debate to get the issue on the ballot was a good one. Opposition to the vote focused on whether the town had any power to endorse the matter.

"It is an advisory thing," said Daims, a retired prototype machinist and stay-at-home dad of three daughters.

So far, Vermont is the only state Bush hasn't visited since he became president in 2001.

Daims said the most grievous crime committed by Bush and Cheney was perjury — lying to Congress and U.S. citizens about the basis of a war in Iraq.

He said the latest count showed a total of 600,000 people have died in the war.

Daims also said he believed Bush and Cheney were also guilty of espionage for spying on American people and obstruction of justice, for the politically generated firings of U.S. attorneys.

Voting to put the matter on the town ballot were Chairwoman Audrey Garfield and board members Richard Garrant and Dora Boubalis.

Voting against the idea were board members Richard DeGray and Stephen Steidle.

Daims said the names submitted to the town clerk's office were the second wave of signatures the petition drive had to collect, because he had to rewrite the wording of the petition.

He said he gathered nearly 500 signatures in about three weeks, and he said most people he encountered were eager to sign it. He started the petition drive about three months ago.

"Everybody I talked to wanted Bush to go," he said, noting that even members of the local police department supported the drive.

"This is exactly what the charter envisioned as a citizen initiative," Daims said. "People want to express themselves and they want to say how they feel."

He said the idea is spreading: Activists in Louisville, Ky., are spearheading a similar drive, and he said activists were also working in Montague, Mass., a Berkshires town.

The article asked the town attorney to "draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution and publish said indictments for consideration by other authorities."

The article goes on to say the indictments would be the "law of the town of Brattleboro that the Brattleboro police ... arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Brattleboro, if they are not duly impeached ..."

Daims said people in Brattleboro were willing to "think outside the box" and consider the issue.

Daims had no compunction in comparing Bush and Cheney with one of the most notorious people in history.

"If Hitler were still alive and walked through Brattleboro, I think the local police would arrest him for war crimes," Daims said.

ANOTHER waste of time!

I've been to Vermont.

I have family who lives there.

Vermont is one beautiful state!

But there are a lot of citizens in Vermont who refuse to come out of the dark ages.

There are a lot of citizens there who refuse to let any progress come forward in their towns.

There are a lot of citizens who listen to too much Canadian radio and their views, instead of those in the U.S.

"The latest count showed a total 600,000 people died in the war?"

Where the heck do Vermont citizens get their information from?

What war are they speaking of?

The Department of Defense updates that information on a regular basis.

As of January 25th the
total count is 3,931.

Oh, they're speaking of that
disputed study done back in 2006 saying that 600,000 Iraqi citizens have been killed.

Espionage?

Is this River City out of The Music Man?

If Hitler showed up in Vermont they would arrest him for war crimes?

Well, isn't that noble of them....

Bush isn't Hitler.

I think Vermonters need to brush up on their history of exactly WHAT
Hitler was.

Maybe Vermonters need to "think outside the box" and find something positive to talk about regarding our troops.

Do Canadian talk radio stations support the arrest of Bush and Cheney?

Make sure you don't forget the approx. 25,000 American soldiers wounded in action in Iraq (depending on whether you refer to the DOD or Dept. for VA) with the 3,931 KIA number.

The civilian death toll in Iraq following are invasion isn't close to 600,000.  That number seem outragous.  The World Health Organization estimates that the civilian death toll is only about 151,000 Iraqi civilians.  Actually, the W.H.O. even admits that the death toll might only be about 126,000.  Those numbers make me feel much better about our operations there.

Hi, Josh...

There are Canadian talk shows , just like I am sure there are media in many, many countries that are anti-Bush.  I don't listen to Canadian talk shows.  But my father does.  And I listen to him rant about what they say.

Here's one example in Canada of support for prosecution of Bush/Cheney for war crimes:

www.straight.com/.../are-bush-co-war-criminals

I'm not forgetting our wounded heroes.  I was specifically speaking of the deaths.

I'm glad you feel much better about our operations there, Josh!

I'm not saying those deaths are good things.  You know that.  They just don't need to blow it out of proportion.  This is a war.  There are casualties.  That is a fact.  Bush did nothing to warrant being impeached and to waste time doing what Brattleboro is doing, cities in our own state have done, and others are contemplating doing is ridiculous.

I would find it hard to believe even you wouldn't agree with that.

It's definately a waste of taxpayer money.  No question about it.  A lot of that going around these days.

She was probably crazy before that.  Now she's crazy AND in a position to spend, spend, spend.
