Politics of Fear...Hillary's Way

By Janet Evans
Saturday, Mar 1 2008, 11:45 AM

I've been hearing the term "Politics of Fear" repeated because I criticized Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats regarding FISA

You see, I think keeping terrorists at bay is critical.

And yes, I believe there is incompetent Democratic leadership by Pelosi....

Regarding national security on our soil and for our soldiers, her incompetence could cause the loss of lives and important intelligence.

Terrorism:

Acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal and by a member or members of a group (as opposed to being carried out in a lone attack), and which deliberately target, or else disregard the safety of, non-combatants (civilians).

Well you want to blame Bush and the Republican's for Politics of Fear...

How do you explain Hillary Clinton and her "Children" ad?

"It's 3:00 am and your children are asleep," a voice over says in the ad entitled "Children". "There's a phone in the White House, and it's ringing. Something is happening in the world. Your vote will decide who answers that call."

"Whether someone knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead. It's 3 am and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?" the ad concludes.

What was that?

Was that Politics of Fear?

Using "fear" to get votes?

Gee, and I was blogging about terrorism, and the protection of American citizens from it....

Republicans and some Democrats alike realize how important it is to protect our country from terrorists.

The National Security Agency’s terrorist surveillance program was successful in intercepting cell phone calls, e-mails and other electronic communications between terrorists and their sympathizers.

Those of you who are against the FISA legislation...I'm sure you've noticed a huge difference now that we are back to old ways of gathering intelligence....you haven't had to worry about anyone listening in on your telephone conversations, have you?  Like they would really be coming after you.

Did you really worry about that?

Because if you really are worried about that....

I'm worried about what YOU are talking about....

"Did you really worry about that?

That is just EXCELLENT.

You have revealed yourself elegantly in that little McCarthyite snippet.

How fortunate for you that you are so blatantly Caucasian.

Hi, Becky.

I knew you would be the first to respond.

You don't have to worry about what I am talking about.

I rarely use the phone.

I put it all right here for you to see.

Oh, please...don't accuse me of McCarthyism.

I'm just saying I'm not afraid to have the government do what they have to do to gather intelligence to keep terrorists out of our country.

You are the one who indicated in my other post that you are worried about your civil liberties.  In this respect, I'm not.  I have nothing to hide if it keeps a terrorist out of our country and saves lives.

If you want to have deeper, accusatory political discussions, maybe you will have to reveal who you really are.  The more you comment about things politically you are indicating to me that you just may not be the "Becky" I assumed you were.

You know, you seem to spend quite a large portion of the day on this site.  Did you say you were from Franklin?  Or do I recall Waukesha?

Anyway, we could use another blogger...you seem to have a very set viewpoint politically..why not start your own blog, Becky?

The thing you and I have to be aware of is that, as white, Christian women, we can say "I'm not afraid to have the government do what they have to do to gather intelligence." But not everyone is so lucky, and being the "wrong" skin shade or observing the "wrong" religion can give the government free reign to, for example, hold you without habeas corpus.

Disgraced Attorney General (and George W.'s lawyer) Alberto Gonzales said during Senate testimony on January 17, 2007, that while habeas corpus is "one of our most cherished rights," the United States Constitution does not expressly guarantee habeas rights to United States residents or citizens.

!!!!

Oh - and why would I accuse you of McCarthyism?

"... Oh yeah - THAT'S why. :)

See, Becky,

That paragraph you just quoted and made your ridiculous accusation from, again...

What I'm saying is that you expect me to have an honest political discussion with you but you are not honest with me because I don't know who you are.  I don't believe you are a "white, Christian woman" either.  Matter of fact, my senses tell me you are a white male.

That doesn't matter though..you can sit at your computer and accuse me of what you want because you think you know me while you hide behind your alias.

Again, I'm saying Pelosi blew it by going into recess and not taking the FISA vote.  Again, I am saying that I, and not only I, there are many more with me out there, believe the vote should have been taken.  Again I am saying that I believe, and I know there are other Americans that believe, we are now at risk because of this decision.

You can twist my opinion all you want.  You have been trying to do that since I came back.  Perhaps trying to get me to be "angry?"  Trying to see if I will ban you?  What's your story?

Janet,

Wow!!! I'm glad I didn't respond first!!! Now, if you would have came at Obama - maybe - but seeings how it was Hillary........naw.

It doesn't suprise me that "silly hilly" is trying to do all she can to get votes. Everyone knows that she needs to run the table Tuesday to keep up with Obama. I think she took a page from the politics of fear playbook written by the Republican party..........

From this and past posts, I think Becky "talks" like a female. That probably sounds sexist, but the subject did come up. I think it's good that she rides you a little. I got that at my blog, and it keeps me from thinking that everyone "agrees" with me.

With that being said - if there's going to be a catfight - make sure to let me know so I can pop some popcorn and get a good seat!!!

Steve.

Sorry. I just thought that asking "Did you really worry about that? Because if you really are worried about that.... I'm worried about what YOU are talking about...." seemed familiar in a scary way. Just like McCarthy used to accuse people who dared to ask him to show real evidence.

I worry about that, so you worry about what I might be talking about. You also worry that I might be a MAN.

Wow.

Becky,

I'll put you at ease.

Pretend I wasn't involving you in my blog or thoughts at all...then you won't have to worry about the fact that I was worrying about you.  I still think you are male though ...but don't worry...I won't tell anyone.

Steve,

No, I don't have cat fights.  Especially with men named Becky.

And I don't think you have to worry about everyone agreeing with you on your blog.   You just aren't hearing from those that disagree with you...they might be too dumbfounded to respond to some of your neighborhood topics.  : )
