Just One Reason Why I Will Miss Dick Cheney

By Janet Evans
Monday, Mar 24 2008, 06:35 AM

The man means business.

He just tells it like it is.

He always has.

Cheney is on a tour of the Middle East.

He recently had an interview with Martha Raddatz, of ABC news.

She questioned him about the economy, and he told her we are not in a recession, which is true.

Then the following exchange took place regarding the war in Iraq:

Raddatz: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.

Cheney: So?

Raddatz: So? You don’t care what the American people think?

Cheney: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls. There has, in fact, been fundamental change and transformation and improvement for the better. That’s a huge accomplishment.

"So?"  You gotta love it!

Cheney Unconcerned By Iraq War's Unpopularity  í here

Janet,

Could his opinion be "tainted" because he's never seen battle???

I don't trust a guy to comment about an illegal war - who took 7 deferrments himself - to stay out of a different illegal war when it was his turn to serve.............

Steve.

Um, Iraq is an "illegal war?"  Right.  or should I say Left?  I'll just say WRONG.

No, I don't think his opinion is tainted.  Whether he served or not is irrelevant in this issue.  There are plenty of people who didn't serve who are in government service.

As far as his deferrments...the rules of draft back then were bizarre...being allowed to stay in school?  Then he was too old.  He didn't break any rules.  Was it right?  No.  He didn't run off to Canada, did he?

It has nothing to do with this anyway.  Your grasping at straws.  And how old were you back then?  You have no clue.

JANET,

'Ya, I wasn't even alive back then. To use your own weak argument against you, "how is that relevant???".

Cheney being a draft deferrment specialist has EVERYTHING to do when he opens his hole about our military. The guy's way off base.

Were you ever in the military Janet??? Well, I was. You're grasping at straws. You have no clue.

See how that works...........

Steve.

Crickets churping after that one.

Oh, crap.  When I turned 18 I was still in high school, and exactly one year and one month later...I was married.  You know...I'm confused as to when the official date of the end of the "illegal" Vietnam" war was....was it '73, '74 or the April 1975 date.  I don't know...but I'm not sure they would have put me on the front lines at 18 then, unless I was a nurse...and I wasn't trained for that.  Even so, I did have serious hopes of joining the Peace Corps back then....I was all about that...but was talked out of it.  You see, the JFK "what can you do for your country" still resonated in the back of my mind.  I had that infatuation like you do with your Obama.  But it meant something back then.

Anyway, long story short....NO, Steve, I didn't serve in the military, but I am from a military family, including one brother who is retired navy.  I believe I thanked you for your service...I do appreciate that, Steve.

Back to the issue...my argument isn't weak... Cheney has intelligence.  His statement makes sense...opinion polls change with the wind...as Strupp pointed out to me on another post regarding your candidate Obama...one day up, the next down, three days later up again.  Granted the opinion of the war has been down for quite some time...but you know what...we have a Commander in Chief...oh, I know...he didn't serve either....well, should we go down the list of those who didn't serve?  Clinton, ....oh, why bother...it just doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter (keep repeating it, Steve).  What matters is who is elected.  That is who makes the decisions.

Now...chirp, chirp, chirp....

I will say this, there's no question Cheney doesn't care about public opinion.  I'll think that's pretty safe to assume at this point.

Janet,

WOW! Am I the catalyst that's going to put you and STRUPP on the same team??? Look at you two lovin' it up tag teaming me..........

Anyhow, does there have to be a war on to join the military??? I was in between the Bush's wars - thank God - but I still signed up.........

Oh yeah Janet - FYI - the military trains you to be a Nurse, or for whatever you signed up to do.

It does matter that Cheney is a coward. Well he's a coward himself, but not with other peoples kids he's not. So his opinion is garbage, 'nuff said.

I'll give you Clinton, he's a coward too.

But, you're right Janet, it does matter who's elected. Say hello to our new President Barack Hussien Obama. Get used to saying that after November.............

Steve.

P.S. STRUPP...........you're welcome.

I realize the military trains soldiers, Steve...and that there doesn't have to be a war.  I guess I just didn't make my point clear..but not everyone wants to join the military.

Did Barack Obama serve in the military?

Hmmm...Let me see....

Senator Barack Obama

Political Party: Democrat

State: Illinois

No Military Service

I don't think you can label everyone who didn't serve in the military a coward.

Steve Schreiner

Janet,

Nope, just who I want to.

I'll start with the chicken-hawks first............

Steve.

The Democratic leadership in the House and Senate:

House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt - Served his country in uniform,  1965-71

House Minority Whip David Bonior - Served his country in uniform,  1968-72

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle - Served his country in uniform,  1969-72

The Real President Albert Gore - Served his country in uniform, 1969-71

The Republican leadership in the House and Senate:

Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich - avoided the draft, did not serve.

Majority Leader Dick Armey- avoided the draft, did not serve.

Majority Whip Tom Delay - avoided the draft, did not serve.

Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott - avoided the draft, did not serve.

March 29, 2008 6:47 AM

Janet Evans

And your point is?

And now we don't have a draft, so how may children of these men are serving?

It makes no difference to me regarding this post.  That's a different issue.

And your remark about Gore being the "Real President," get over it.

I guess that's why Bush had the highest popular vote in history in 2004...nobody wanted him as president.

Why don't you go find some "chads" to go play with...oh, you'd have to take a trip to Florida for that.  Have they fixed their voting system yet?  Sure hope it's fixed by November.
