In the Race
Now, here, you see, it takes all the blogging I can do to keep in the same place.
If I want to get somewhere else, I must blog twice as fast as that!
You see, I'm in

A Walking Stick with a Retractable Blade?

It’s been in the news more and more lately.
What we used to call a "Pack-Rat" is really an illness called "Hoarding Syndrome."
Reader's Digest had an article back in March of 2007 titled The Hoarding Syndrome - When Clutter Goes Out of Control about a woman in Texas who suffers from this syndrome. The sad thing about this illness is that family may help to clean up the mess, and you may get treatment, but these people just can't help themselves and they usually revert back to their old ways. And this illness isn't one that only afflicts older people.
I know someone who just went through this with a relative. They spent a weekend packing a truck and hauling away his apartment full of junk. He died less than a year later, alone, once again in a cluttered living space.
There's a story on Reuters about a man in Germany with the same problem. It doesn't sound like his was junk; more like collectibles. He stacked his home so full of treasures he had to sleep in a hotel.
"A German man was such an avid collector of weapons and other paraphernalia that he ran out of space at home and had to sleep in a hotel, neighbors said following the 71-year-old's death.
"There were 71 guns -- one for each year of his life," said police spokesman Paul Kemen. "He also had 41 cases of ammunition and five walking sticks fitted with retractable blades."

I’m still intrigued by the walking sticks with the retractable blades….sounds like something out of a spy movie.
