In the Race

Now, here, you see, it takes all the blogging I can do to keep in the same place.
If I want to get somewhere else, I must blog twice as fast as that!
You see, I'm in the Red Queen's Race...

Boomgaard...Vreemd Nederlands

By Janet Evans

Oh, Lieve Heer!

What will become of us?

The Dutch say the world is going to end.

When?

Why, in 2012!

That’s not very far off.

So what are they doing to prepare?

Why, stocking up on life rafts!

That makes sense.

“Prepare?”

Why prepare if the world is going to end anyway?

And then there is one Dutch citizen who thinks it might not be so bad....

"You know, maybe it's really not that bad that the Netherlands will be destroyed," Petra Faile said. "I don't like it here anymore. Take immigration, for example. They keep letting people in. And then we have to build more houses, which makes the Netherlands even heavier. The country will sink even lower, which will make the flooding worse."

Has someone been in those mushrooms?

Hmmm…let’s continue looking for that new name to replace Boomgaard, shall we?  Are those 120 days up yet?

Take a look at the full article from UPI.com.

And while you’re there…check out the plethora of comments.  Some of them are “grappig.”  That translates to funny in Dutch.

Of course the citizens of Franklin still wait for our CC to do anything on the matter to resemble the action of the OC CC.  Instead, the Franklin CC voted for former Alderman Pete Kosovich to be on the influential planning commission.  Now the 27th street steering committee and the planning commission are two different monsters, but lets be serious Kosovich has land on 27th street.  Does anyone not think he may be running out the clock for some developer to hand him a nice check for his land so they can put up a Sonic?  The former alderman has a conflict of interest in any development or planning that may outright financially benefit himself.  From my understanding there was a wealthy pool of people who could have been vetted to aid franklin in their planning and quite possibly the Boomgard debacle.  Once again' I'm disappointed in both of Franklin's political Taylors.

Apollo,

Regarding your first point....

Mayor Taylor said the following:

"I had referred the item back to committee about a month ago, for reconsideration and more public input," said Franklin Mayor Thomas Taylor, adding that no formal action will need to be taken by the Franklin Common Council, because the governing body never voted on the matter in the first place.

The trouble is, the Common Council and Mayor Taylor never say anything on this subject...at least Oak Creek (Mayor Bolender) acknowledged the issue in public, at least twice, if not more.
