I’d like to post blogs on several community or government-related topics, but have lacked time this week.
I’ve been preoccupied with other matters:
- On Tuesday, I became a grandma for the second time. I am blessed with another adorable and healthy grandson.
- On Tuesday morning, an orthopedic specialist drained a lot of fluid from my knee. Then he injected cortisone into my knee. I hope my leg improves significantly over the next couple of weeks and I won’t need surgery.
- My daughter-in-law , who lives out of state, has been in the hospital since Monday.
- My daughter is in the hospital.
- On Saturday, my eldest son will travel from his home out West/Air Force Base to Kansas for ten weeks military training prior to deployment to Afghanistan.
- My husband and I are participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this Saturday.
That's a partial list of this week’s happenings.
Oh, by the way---
New Berlin Public Schools emailed me Tuesday afternoon that they are working on the request for information/inspection of records that I submitted last week. NBPS hopes to have the information compiled for me by the end of next week.

My son Jason is an officer in the United States Air Force.
He and his wife are expecting a baby in August.
Jason was recently notified that he will be deployed to Afghanistan in August.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Jason and others who serve in the military for their service to our country, courage and unselfishness.
Our servicemen and women in Iraq or Afghanistan make significant personal sacrifices and risk their lives for our country/ us.
They deserve recognition for that and support.

The main reason I haven’t been blogging very much lately is my leg has been acting up.
I injured my left leg a few weeks ago. I don’t know how. Perhaps it happened one of the times I lifted my 2 yr old grandson to put him in his car seat or take him out of it.
Anyhow, one day my leg began hurting quite a bit from the knee down. My doctor gave me some medication for inflammation and pain, but it didn‘t do much except make me groggy. A few days later, when I couldn’t bend my knee, straighten my leg or stand, my husband and brother took me to the hospital. Not an easy task in the circumstances. The ER staff applied a bulky brace to my knee to immobilize it. That contraption covers much of my leg and has a half-dozen straps to fasten, but it’s helped tremendously. They gave me crutches and instructions to stay off my left leg for awhile and to make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor. I am grateful for the treatment I received, the kindness or help of family and strangers and that I am making steady progress. I am hobbling around somewhat better now and even managed to tie my own shoes this morning.
I am looking forward to when I can walk normally and painfree again. Hopefully, that will be soon because I am participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, May 2. That's a worthy cause that I am committed to and I’d hate to tackle that 5K walk on crutches.
Visit www.cancer.org/stridesonline to sign up for the Walk, donate/ support or for facts about breast cancer.

Ah, simple pleasures.
Our grandson loves tractors. Real tractors and toy tractors.
So, the party to celebrate his second birthday had a tractor theme--- tractor decorations, tractor cake, etc.
Here's a photo of our grandson riding his little tractor around the yard during the party.

As a special treat, he got to sit in a BIG tractor! Wow, was he excited and happy doing that!

--A recent snapshot of our grandson’s visit with Santa
Perhaps we should have submitted it to the Scared of Santa contest sponsored by MilwaukeeMoms.com/My CommunityNOW.com. Who knows? It might have won.
Evidently, many folks did participate in the contest. The Web site indicates there were over 300 entries. The deadline was Dec. 19.
When you have a moment, take a look at those endearing photo submissions. They are sure to make you smile.
The contest will be announcing the photo winner and runners-up tomorrow, Dec. 23.

When I heard yesterday that a plane had crashed on takeoff at the Denver airport, I went online for an updated news report.
The internet can be so useful. I found out that it wasn't our son's flight, which was such a relief.
Apparently, several people were injured in the accident.
The airport mishap did cause our son's flight from Denver to Wisconsin to be delayed for several hours.
We used the internet to monitor his flight status and estimated time of arrival.
We are thankful that our son arrived safely. My husband picked him up at Mitchell Airport around l a.m today.
It is so nice having all of our adult "kids" home with us for the Christmas holidays.
Not everyone is so fortunate.
We hope and pray that the people who were injured in the fiery jet crash recover soon and that there are no fatalities.

My dear mother passed away Sunday after a courageous battle with cancer.
I am glad her pain and suffering has ended and she’s found peace.
But oh, how I miss her.
I love you mom.

A spate of family medical emergencies, injuries, health problems and other pressing issues has consumed much of my time during the last few weeks.
As a result, I haven’t been blogging as much as I’d like or usually do.
But stay tuned, I'll be posting another blog entry soon.

An e-postcard to you.....
Greetings from outside New Berlin. I've been in Florida since Sunday, April 6, visiting some family members and taking a break from regular routine and blogging. I'm hoping the sunshine and warmer weather here will facilitate recovery from the influenza, health problems and complications I've been struggling with during these last two months. The Sunshine State is a great vacation and recreation spot. A fun place to visit. However, there's no place like home.

It’s his first Christmas and Santa Baby can't wait for the milk and cookies.
Of course, li'l Santa will get some toys, too. Shopping for them was a bit of a challenge, given all of the recalls due to lead paint or other hazards.
We wish you a joyful holiday season.
Merry Christmas!

I see that Matt Thomas posted a blog late Monday night titled The Truth about Linda Richter.
The truth is that I have spent the greater part of the day and evening Tuesday assisting/caring for my terminally ill mother.
The truth is that Tuesday was a gorgeous, warm day. I would have enjoyed taking a walk outdoors in the sunny 72 degree weather. But that can wait. My mom’s needs take priority. She relies on my help, my skills ( I am a registered nurse) and support. There will be other warm days for me to enjoy.
The truth is that I would have liked to attend Tuesday's Common Council meeting, too. But being with my mom was of greater importance to me. I treasure the time spent with her. There will be other Council meetings.
The truth is that it’s well after midnight. I’ve been up since 6 a.m. It’s been a long, eventful day. I am physically tired, emotionally drained. Too tired to read Thomas’ blog tonight, despite its provocative title. To me, some things matter more--like my family and sleep. Thomas' blog can wait.
