Want the latest on numerous activities and programs being offered by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department? Regular updates will be posted as they become available. WRESTLING MAT TIME FOR KIDS

Wrestlers of all experience levels are invited to participate in WRESTLING MAT TIME schedule in the Middle School Wrestling Room Monday evenings from 7:00-8:00PM on June 16, 23, 30,; July 7, 14, 21, and 28.  Only wrestlers of similar weight and ability will be allowed to work together-so please sign-up and bring a wrestling partner.  No experience necessary!   Wrestlers entering 2nd grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult.  The format will include warm-up, drills, instruction and live wrestling.

Joel Shilling (SMHS Wrestling Coach) and various Senior High School Varsity Wrestlers will supervise the program.

ADULT COMPUTER CLASSES OFFERED

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HOME COMPUTER This class explores some of the basics and more interesting but lesser known areas of home computing.  You will learn more about using your computer for tasks that you may not use it for now, including learning the terminology, resources on the internet, creating various documents, learning how to save and find files, and customizing settings on your computer.  This course is intended for anyone that is somewhat new to home computers or just wants to learn more about the basics. This class will be held on Monday evenings, June 16 – July 21, 6:00 – 7:20PM in the Senior High – Room 2105.

 

LEARNING MICROSOFT OFFICE  This is a beginning course for leaning the various programs of the Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.  How to use these programs at home or work will be explored.  This class is intended for people who have a basic knowledge of their computer, or are also taking the “Getting the most out of your home computer” class in conjunction with this class. This class will be held on Wednesday evenings June 18 – July 23, from 7:30 – 8:50 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 22).

 

INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT OFFICE  This course will go into a higher level of using the Microsoft Office package, including Word, Excel and Power Point.  Creating more sophisticated and more technically useful documents is a goal of this course.  A good working knowledge of these programs or previous completion of the Recreation Department “Learning Microsoft Office” course (or a similar class) would be very helpful to get the most out of this class. This class will be held on Wednesday evenings June 18 – July 23, from 6:00 – 7:20 PM in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 24).

 

LEARNING MICROSOFT EXCEL for the beginner    This course is intended to introduce you to the program and help you find uses for it in your home, class, or business.  This class will be held on Monday evenings, June 16 – July 21, from 7:30 – 8:50 pm in the Senior High – Room 2105 (entrance 24).

KIDS LEARNING HOW TO SWIM

Make swimming an important part of your child’s life!!  Swimming lessons will give your child a good start in learning to enjoy the water as well as learning the skills necessary for its use as a lifetime sport.  Swim classes are designed to teach and improve skills to instill a positive and safe attitude toward water.

Classes will be held at the South Milwaukee Middle School Pool.  When attending class, enter through door #34. For safety and effective instruction, it is important that children sign up for the appropriate level when they register.  In most cases, students require an average of two or more sessions before passing a given level.

The session will meet on meet on July 7-18 for 8 classes with no class on Wednesday, July 9 and 16.

Pre-beginning, 2-5 years old with parent will meet at 1:30-1:55PM.

Level 1, 6 years and older will meet at 2:00-2:40 PM.

Level 2 & 3, 6 years and older will meet at 2:45 -3:25PM.

REC DEPT WELCOMES NEW EXERCISE INSTRUCTORS

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is happy to announce that the Certified Pilates Instructor, Kelly Rozumalski will be teaching a summer Pilates class on Thursday evenings from 6:00-6:50PM at the Senior High School in room 1125.  Kellie will also be teach Pilate classes on Monday evening throughout the 2008-09 school year. Summer class begins June 12.

 

Also, we are happy to announce that the Certified Yoga Instructor, Arlene Avadian will be teaching a summer Yoga class on Thursday evenings from 7:00-7:50PM at the Senior High School in room 1125.

SUMMER EXERCISE CLASSES FOR ADULTS

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is happy to announce that the exercise classes will again be offered.  The classes will begin the week of June 9 and students will have eight lessons.  All classes will be held in room 1125 in the Senior High School, except Water Aerobic will be offered at the Middle School in the pool.  The classes offered will be:

 

Cardio Wt & Sculpt; Monday, 9:00-9:50AM

Yoga; Monday, 6:00-6:50PM

Cardiokick; Tuesday, 5:30-6:20PM 

Low Impact Aerobics; Wednesday, 9:00-9:50AM

PRIMARY PLAYTIME

Summer is just around the corner.  For children, this is a wonderful, carefree season.  No more boots, mittens, coughs and sniffles; instead, it’s shorts and sandals.  Your childs time will be full of fun-filled creative activities. Children will enjoy the comforts of a classroom as well as exploring the outdoors to release all their energy.  Activities include: storytelling, show & tell, arts and crafts, movement, singing, playground games and much more.  This structured play program is a great opportunity for children to discover the wonder and excitement of sun, fun and friends.

 

Children 3-5 years of age may now be enrolled in the South Milwaukee Recreation Department's Primary Playtime Program offered this summer at Blakewood School.  3 & 4 year olds will meet on Monday and Wednesday, and 4 & 5 year olds will meet on Tuesday and Thursday.  Class is scheduled for 9:30-11:00 AM, June 30 – July 31, 2008.  When attending class, enter through door #3.

PRIORITY REGISTRATION - FLAG FOOTBALL KICKBALL AND VOLLEYBALL

Those students K5-8TH grade  interested in playing kickball, flag football and or volleyball may obtain a parental permission blank at the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, Room #1100, 901 15 Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172.  Walk-in registration is possible, Monday - Friday, 8:00 -12:00 noon and 1:00-4:00 P.M.   We are located on the east side of the new Senior High School.  You may park your car in the east lot and enter the building through door #24.  The Rec. JOHN RIGGINS & TRACY STOLTE ROCKET BASKETBALL CAMP

The popular "ROCKET BASKETBALL CAMP" will again be offered by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department for boys and girls entering 3rd through 9th grade.  Camp will be held the Monday – Thursday, June 16 – 19th for both boys and girls. Campers will meet 9:00–12:00pm in the Senior High Fieldhouse.
 
South Milwaukee High School Basketball Coaches, Tracy Stolte and John Riggins, along with former varsity players will stress fundamentals for all participants.  Coaches will work on offense, defense, shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding etc.  This is an excellent camp for players to get a head start for the winter basketball program.

YOUTH TACKLE FOOTBALL

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is accepting registration from current 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who will be going into 6th, 7th and 8th grade who are interested in playing tackle football in the fall of 2008.

The registration fee is $195.00. Registration forms may be obtained from the Recreation Department in Room 1001 in the Senior High.  Please park in the east lot and enter through door 24.

CALL FOR CAST: JUNIOR AND SENIOR YOUTH THEATRE

The stage is set to come alive this summer!  Do you dream of becoming a star?  Do you picture yourself on stage, under bright lights, wearing a costume and makeup, taking your final bow and hearing the loud applause roar through the theatre while the curtain closes?  Well here's your chance!

JUNIOR THEATRE:  The South Milwaukee Youth Theatre Juniors will present “Disney’s Cinderella KIDS” in the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.  This classic fairy tale follows Cinderella on her journey to overcome her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and attend the Prince’s Ball.  Large chorus of boys and girls needed for musicals numbers including “A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes”, “Bibbiddi-Bobbidi-Boo”, “The Work Song” and more.  There will be four weeks of rehearsals on Mondays from 4:30-6:00pm and Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30pm in the Middle School Commons. (You must be registered prior to auditions).   Auditions and parentmeeting on Monday, June 2 (5pm-7pm) in the Middle School Commons. (Children MUST be registered prior toauditions).  Rehearsals begin Monday, June 16 at 4:30pm.  Dress rehearsals will be held on Tuesday, July 8 andFriday, July 11 (Attendance mandatory). Performances will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 1pm and 6pm in theSM PAC. Ages 6 to 10 (must be 6 by June 15). Children under the age of 8 are asked to bring verification of birth date to auditions.  Space limited to the first 45 to register. 

 

 

SENIORS THEATRE: The South Milwaukee Youth Theatre Seniors will present “High School Musical one act” in the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.  Join the Wildcats of East High as the  brainiacs and the jocks rock out to hits from the movie including “Start of Something New”, “Status Quo”, “Bop To the Top”, “Breaking Free” and “Were All in This Together”.  There will be six weeks of rehearsals on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8:30pm in the Middle School Commons.  Auditions and parent meeting are being held Tuesday, June 3rd (5pm- 7pm) in the Middle School Commons.Rehearsals begin June 16th at 6 pm.  Dress rehearsals will be held on July 30th, and 31st. (Attendance is mandatory).  Performances are on Friday, August 1st, Saturday, August 2nd, and Sunday August 3rd in the SM PAC. Ages 11 to 17 (must be 11 by June 15 no exceptions).  If you are under the age of 13 please bring verification of birth date to auditions.  Space limited to the first 40 to register.    A large cast of boys and girls needed and there will be plenty of chorus and dancing numbers.  All actors should enter door #34.
