St. John Vianney News

Brookfield is a wonderful community, known for its great neighborhoods, great shopping, great restaurants and importantly, great schools. This blog will provide insight into life and education at St. John Vianney school, a 4K-8 educational anchor in Brookfield since 1957. Kelly is a full-time mother of four, with three attending SJV and the fourth aspiring to attend when she's old enough for preschool.

The Calm Before the SJV Festival Storm

All this talk of flash floods and heavy rain over the weekend got me thinking about the last time we experienced extreme weather -- the Saturday afternoon of the SJV Festival.  Here are some pictures from the fest BEFORE the crazy weather broke in:

Lots of clouds but they can't stop this festival goer from having fun...

Waiting for a ride...

The day still looking good....

The "Bean Queens" (SJV moms) organizing and serving beverages at the coffee kiosk....

Festivalgoers finally but reluctantly starting to scramble....

Want to know more about St. John Vianney School (it's known for much more than its great festival!)?  Did you know that there are still openings -- in the 5K, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th grades?  Interested in visiting the school?  Visit the St. John Vianney School Website or contact principal Jayme Hartmann at jaymeh@stjohnv.org or call 262/796-3940.

I'm curious why Catholic churches find it necessary to have these type of events in order to pay their bills.  Don't the parishioners support their parish with tithes and offerings?  I find it very distasteful for a church to be selling beer and having rock bands be their method of support.  Fish fries and bingo were bad enough but these "festivals" are very unrepresentative of what a church should be about.  I don't see that Mathew 28:19-20 implied that this method should be employed.

As a supporter of SJV, my wife being a member, we have both been volunteers at the festival. Many volunteers give of their time and effort and attendance at the festival is voluntary. All religious institutions have the same right to have fund raising events, assuming they qualify legally.

Thanks to the first amendment and other constitutional laws we live in the USA.

INTEWEDM, Churches of all faiths have summer festivals. A church is a community and people in communities like to have a little fun once in a while. Lighten up.

Perhaps before you run off at the mouth about why SJV, or any other Catholic Church holds a festival (and yes  IMNOTPC is correct, this is not a 'Catholic' thing), you should do some research about their bills, budgets, tithes, offerings and support.  You are way off base on this one.
