Hi, my name is Lesha Knowles. I graduated from Bay View High School in June of 2008. I also received an award for the Eddie Beres Scholarship. I have not received the scholarship. I was told by someone at Bay View High School that i could only get $500.00. Someone from the school sent me a check for $250.00. How could my scholarship be taken away when this is offered every year. I am attending college and still checking into this matter. Please respond.

The next meeting of the Humboldt Park 4th of July Association will be on Wednesday night, April 1st at 7 PM in the park pavilion. Refreshements will be served after the meeting. All people are invited to get involved and give input at our meetings. You are very welcome to attend. This year will be the 100th time we actually hold an Independence Day celebration at Humboldt Park. The Association was begun as as the Safe and Sane 4th. Too many people were being injured with fireworks. Many lost their eyesight, fingers and other such injuries. This orgaization was created to prevent such accidents and to provide a full day of entertainment for the entire family to enjoy in safety and to conclude with a fireworks display.

Over time we had many ideas tried. We want to celebrate Independence Day in a safe and sane manner with the entire family being able to enjoy the activities.

Have you tried offering naming rights? The "insert company name here" Independence Day celebration? That should be worth an easy couple of grand.

Just off the top of my head. I will seriously consider your invitation to the meetings, as I would like to become more involved in our community.

When you have spent 21 years volunteering to help plan the Independence Day celebration at Humboldt Park, you get very depressed to hear that all of your work is going down the drain. We have always provided the families of Bay View with a full day of family activities on that day. Over the years we have suffered many cuts to our program, but we were able to overcome them with a lot of effort on the part of our sponsors and volunteers. I would like to invite you to come to one of our meetings. Maybe you can give us some new ideas to help our cause. We welcome your presence and input.

There are going to be cuts. The economy is in the tank. Taxes are ridiculously high. They are going to have to do some private fund raising.

I learned how to program a computer in the 1960's. Because I ran out of money, I could not finish my college education. My dad was deceased and my mother did not have much money. The library was my main souce of knowledge on various subjects. I found out that theology and history are intermixed. In searching history, I was able to do some deep research. Through the computer, I am able to interface with other types of history and rare books unavailable in the library. As the second youngest child, I took a lot of abuse by my older sisiters, but I survived and am very close with them now. Experience is the best teacher. Although I taught in the church, it does not make me a good person. You must live your faith to be successful. A strong religious relief is very helpful in life. My purpose in blogging is tp promote and help the community of Bay View. Although I am very active in many groups, I am getting older and am having a hard time getting younger people to join and give their input and ideas to modernize these groups. Someday I will be gone, but who can do the work that I am doing now. Please consider helping out in the community. I does not matter if it is the church, PTA, scouts, veteran goups, other parent groups and other associations in need of help. Too many people talk of helping, but do nothing. This is your community. Please become a part of it. I was born before World War II, but I learned many things about people and life during my years. I am human and make mistakes.

everyone has to learn. does it matter what age? isn't the key the act of acquiring new knowledge or skill? why would you laugh or ridicule when someone confesses they needed to learn something like use a hand mixer as an adult? how old were you when you learned how to use a computer? how would you feel if someone mocked you about skills you are in the early process of learning? some people grow up in homes where cooking was rarely performed. childhoods were different in the 70s ,80,90s (and now) than they were in the 20s, 30, 40s when moms didn't have to work outside the home. also cooking classes are no longer readily available in public schools.
