Wag the Dog

Why does a dog wag its tail? Because a dog is smarter than its tail. If the tail was smarter, the tail would wag the dog! An old joke that applys to today.

UPDATED - Basil, Tom, DO NOT CALL

By Bryan Maersch
Sunday, Mar 30 2008, 10:09 PM
It was bad enough when I had Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain calling me with their automated message before the Wisconsin Primary.

Now, I have received automated phone messages from both Basil Ryan and Tom Taylor, warning me not to listen to the other one's accusations.

Guys, I know it is legal for you to do this but......

DO NOT CALL

Update 3/30/08 - Another call From Basil

It must be getting down to the wire since the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has endorsed Mayor Tom Taylor for Franklin Mayor.

I just got another call from Basil Ryan's service reminding me not to listen to the smear concerning his aldermanic recall election and to give him a call or go to his website.

Between his professional brochures showing up every other day and these phone calls. This isn't going to be a cheep run at the Mayor's office for Basil.

Call them back at around 2:00am, tell them you got their message, and ask; "so... what do you want to talk about, I'm all ears!"

Thanks to Caller ID - Basil's is coming from PRIVATE NAME - PRIVATE NUMBER and Tom's comes from his wife Carol A. Taylor (his treasurer)!

NO MORE SLEAZY FLYERS PLEASE!!

================================================

YES, I DO WANT BASIL RYAN POLITICS BACK IN FRANKLIN!!!

Today I received a sleazy, green flyer placed inside my mailbox [a federal offense] containing bigoted and distorted propaganda concerning the recall of Basil Ryan in 2003 and a big push for Tom Taylor as mayor.

This was the product of Peter Kosovich, a candidate for 4th district Alderperson [go figure!]  I think this is something Taylor is using as a last ditch effort to manipulate voters with lopsided information and to pervert the truth concerning the real reason for the recall.

I am inclined to think that he does not want to associate himself with such low-life, misrepresented drivel, and thought:  “let one of my lackeys do it for me”.

The group on the Council that Mr. Ryan refers to as the “Good Old Boys” [GOB] club is an insidious collaboration of council members who are drunk with commercial expansion. They have demonstrated their disrespect for the wishes of taxpayers and have perpetrated adverse impacts of development that are adjacent to residential neighborhoods.  This group was denounced as illegal but the Atty. General has yet to take action.  They call themselves Franklin Citizens for Responsible Leadership  (euphemism for “The Special Interest Subsidiary League for Commercial Development].

This juggernaut mounted a ruthless campaign against then- Alderperson Basil Ryan because of his stalwart fight for comprehensive, long-range planning and prudent judgement.  He refused to join the “yes-man” FCRL group who were pandering for developers and their support.  This is the kind of representation Franklin citizens deserve.

Let’s dissect the wording of the sleazy flyer.  Referring to Mr. Ryan it stated:

 “he played games” and “abstained from voting”.    That must be a referral to Mr. Ryan’s use of all of the resources at his disposal to represent the taxpayers in good conscience.  I see it as brains over brawn.

 “he drove away development”.   I know that this was development that did not belong in Franklin.  One example:  A trucking Co. in the area that today will be the site of a hospital on 27 St.

 “Franklin was getting a bad reputation”.   Yes, I imagine the exposure of Mr. Ryan’s fight against the corrupt politics that followed the GOB and their steamroller politics would not bode well for any community.

Franklin has been “April Fools” far too long at the hands of the GOB and our current mayor.  I am trusting that eyes will open and improve our lousy 20% turn-out at the polls and bring the Council back to the people with the election of BASIL RYAN.

DISCLAIMER:  The opinions mentioned above are not necessarily those of certain politicians but certainly those of the author.

Sounds like Unfettered Candor is pretty darn good friends with Basil Ryan.

Of course,  when you use a pseudonym to mask your identity, you can say what ever you like and not be responsible for what you say.

Besides, what would Pete be putting fliers in a 1st District mailbox such as your UC. Sounds like you have been  setup to me!

Or could this be a conspiracy by the Franklin Citizens for Responsible Leadership just to get you mad - AGAIN?

UC may be an unabashed Ryan supporter, but at least he provides a perspective different from the blogger (at to be honest, most other blogsters on this site).  I may not agree with everything UC states, but at least we can't say he suffers from 'group think'.

That is the beauty of the blogs. You and UC can disagree with what we say. Maybe the group think is realistic thinking.

Please read the endorsement of the JS gave Taylor. Are they part of the Group Think also?

As I have stated in my blogs of recent past. I have been a Franklin Resident since 1989 and have followed Franklin politics from the start.

I remember the constant bickering, lawsuits, accusations of favors and the recall of Basil Ryan. I am not real crazy for that to happen again.

As the JS states, Taylor has taken us through some tough times in which the State has not funded mandated programs. One of which currently is the way the City's retirements are funded.

I for one have not seen anything that makes me want to change the course with putting Basil Ryan in charge.

But as I said before. You vote the way you want and I will vote the way I want. (ahhh the beauty of the one person one vote society)
