WHS Adoptable Animals

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. For more than 128 years, WHS has been saving the lives of animals in need. We offer adoption services that place 9,000 animals in new homes annually, veterinary services that save thousands of lives, educational programs that instill respect for animals, behavior services to assist guardians and a myriad of other initiatives that help end suffering for animals. We depend entirely on private donations to fund our programs and rely on volunteers in nearly every department. If you are interested in adopting, volunteering, enrolling in a class, taking a tour or making a donation, check out our comprehensive web site at wihumane.org. The adoptable animals' web pages are updated every 30 minutes!

Good-humored Gloria

By Wisconsin Humane Society
Tuesday, Sep 30 2008, 12:06 PM

Gloria is a gorgeous 10-month-old Pit-Bull mix. A sweet-tempered girl, Gloria is full of friendliness. She is enormously affectionate and would be a very loving companion animal. She likes nothing more than a nice game of fetch and some playtime outdoors. Gloria has good manners and is quite polite. This well-behaved Pit Bull mix would fit in perfectly with a family who is happy to make the commitment for training, exercise and of course some time spent snuggling. Like all of the dogs at the Wisconsin Humane Society, Gloria has been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Crazy about Gloria? Check her out on our site, which is updated every 30 minutes, so you can always see who is available for adoption before you drop in to visit us at 4500 West Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee.

A love story: Antony & Cleopatra

By Wisconsin Humane Society
Thursday, Sep 25 2008, 04:38 PM

Meet two very special cats. Antony, a British Shorthair and Cleopatra, a Maine Coon mix, are both 8 1/2 years old. They are also best friends and we want to find them a home for two!

He's not really Roman and she's never been to Cairo, but Antony and Cleopatra deserve to be treated like royalty. This sweet-natured pair are loving, affectionate and stunning. Cleopatra loves attention, especially in the form of snuggling. Upon first meeting, she is apt to crawl into your lap and roll upside down for a belly rub. Her thick black fur is luxuriously soft and she will need frequent grooming in her new home.  Antony is slightly more reserved, but he warms up once he sees that you're trustworthy. Antony loves head rubs and chin scratches, in particular. He's a large fellow with rather luminous green eyes and beautifully patterned coat.

Antony and Cleo are best buddies and have lived together their whole lives. We don't want to split them up, so we're looking for a family seeking double the love! Do they sound like a good fit for you? Click here to learn more!

Cruise on down to Pier Wisconsin for a lovely evening of good cheer and good deeds for our four-legged friends. Benefiting the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies, the Paws & Claws Gala will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008.

Emceed by The Biggest Name in Milwaukee Radio, Phil Cianciola from 620 WTMJ, the annual fundraiser for the Wisconsin Humane Society boasts an impressive array of silent and live auction items, Bartolotta’s finest fare and live music. You’ll meet cats in ball gowns and dogs in tuxedos! There’s even a raffle and the top prize is sensational!

Although Brodhi, above, is enjoying his ride, we bet you’ll have even more fun on this 105th Anniversary Harley Dyna Low Rider.  Not only is it stunning, it promises a little piece of heaven as you leave your cares behind and head out on the open road. You’ll be the envy of all your neighbors. You might even be able to charge admission to your garage. And the raffle ticket is only $5.

Gala tickets are still available. Treat yourself to a doggone good time.

Admission tickets are $250/person and $500/couple; all proceeds help the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies in their efforts to save animals’ lives.  For more information, visit www.wihumane.org or www.ozaukeehumane.org.  You can also call (414) 431-6121 for more information on purchasing tickets.

By Wisconsin Humane Society
Monday, Sep 8 2008, 12:27 PM

Calvin and Hobbes will exceed your every expectation when you visit them at WHS. Large in both size and personality, it's hard not to fall for these confident, affectionate and outgoing cats. Hobbes has a luxurious coat of thick fur, so perhaps that's why he's first to greet you at the door. This kitty LOVES being groomed and will need brushing to keep his coat healthy and shiny. Calvin is never far behind Hobbes and will eagerly crawl into your lap for chin rubs and neck scratches.

These amazing cats have lived together their whole lives and have formed a deep bond of love and friendship. We don't want to split them up. Do you have the room in your heart and home for two? See them at www.wihumane.org.

Have you gotten your tickets to the 2008 Paws & Claws gala?  Read more about this fun fundraiser for animals.

ADOPTED! Double the fun

By Wisconsin Humane Society
Tuesday, Sep 2 2008, 01:54 PM

BJ and PeeWee are 8-year-old Schipperkes who are seeking a family with room for two!  These inseparable sisters will keep you laughing as they play together with their favorite squeaky toys.  At 8-years-old, they already know the ropes and understand basic cues like "sit" and "come."  You'd never guess that they are 8-years-old, despite the cute gray beards they've both developed.  These two are quite spunky, outgoing and play off each other's energy in very silly displays of play.

We don't want to separate these constant companions, so they must go home together!   Like all the dogs available at WHS, BJ and PeeWee have been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and go home with a certificate for a free veterinary exam, in addition to 30 days of Sheltercare Pet Insurance.  See them at www.wihumane.org
