Do you have a handsome lobster outfit like the one modeled by Nimbus? Dig out the doggie costumes and head to Halloween Howl!!! It's the premier Halloween event for dogs and their humans, featuring a canine costume contest, tricks for treats, bobbing for hot dogs, a bone dig and more! The little sheriffs and ballerinas are well worth the $20 registration fee, which goes right back to the animals at the shelter. There are two sessions this year on October 17, too! Sign up for 6:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. or the later session from 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Dog must be well-socialized for this indoor event. Register here!

Good-humored Gloria

Gloria is a gorgeous 10-month-old Pit-Bull mix. A sweet-tempered girl, Gloria is full of friendliness. She is enormously affectionate and would be a very loving companion animal. She likes nothing more than a nice game of fetch and some playtime outdoors. Gloria has good manners and is quite polite.This well-behaved Pit Bull mix would fit in perfectly with a family who is happy to make the commitment for training, exercise and of course some time spent snuggling. A love story: Antony & Cleopatra

Meet two very special cats. Antony, a British Shorthair and Cleopatra, a Maine Coon mix, are both 8 1/2 years old. They are also best friends and we want to find them a home for two!

He's not really Roman and she's never been to Cairo, but Antony and Cleopatra deserve to be treated like royalty. This sweet-natured pair are loving, affectionate and stunning. Cleopatra loves attention, especially in the form of snuggling. Upon first meeting, she is apt to crawl into your lap and roll upside down for a belly rub. Her thick black fur is luxuriously soft and she will need frequent grooming in her new home. Antony is slightly more reserved, but he warms up once he sees that you're trustworthy. Antony loves head rubs and chin scratches, in particular. He's a large fellow with rather luminous green eyes and beautifully patterned coat.

Antony and Cleo are best buddies and have lived together their whole lives. We don't want to split them up, so we're looking for a family seeking double the love! Do they sound like a good fit for you? Click here to learn more!

Cruise on down to Pier Wisconsin for a lovely evening of good cheer and good deeds for our four-legged friends. Benefiting the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies, the Paws & Claws Gala will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008.

Emceed by The Biggest Name in Milwaukee Radio, Phil Cianciola from 620 WTMJ, the annual fundraiser for the Wisconsin Humane Society boasts an impressive array of silent and live auction items, Bartolotta’s finest fare and live music. You’ll meet cats in ball gowns and dogs in tuxedos! There’s even a raffle and the top prize is sensational!

Although Brodhi, above, is enjoying his ride, we bet you’ll have even more fun on this 105th Anniversary Harley Dyna Low Rider. Calvin and Hobbes will exceed your every expectation when you visit them at WHS. Large in both size and personality, it's hard not to fall for these confident, affectionate and outgoing cats. Hobbes has a luxurious coat of thick fur, so perhaps that's why he's first to greet you at the door. This kitty LOVES being groomed and will need brushing to keep his coat healthy and shiny. Calvin is never far behind Hobbes and will eagerly crawl into your lap for chin rubs and neck scratches.

BJ and PeeWee are 8-year-old Schipperkes who are seeking a family with room for two! These inseparable sisters will keep you laughing as they play together with their favorite squeaky toys. At 8-years-old, they already know the ropes and understand basic cues like "sit" and "come." You'd never guess that they are 8-years-old, despite the cute gray beards they've both developed. These two are quite spunky, outgoing and play off each other's energy in very silly displays of play.

We don't want to separate these constant companions, so they must go home together! Like all the dogs available at WHS, BJ and PeeWee have been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and go home with a certificate for a free veterinary exam, in addition to 30 days of Sheltercare Pet Insurance. This sweetheart Cocker Spaniel is just 6 years old and is one of the 1,200 dogs rescued from Puppy Haven Kennels and brought to WHS. She is experiencing new things everyday - the feel of grass beneath her feet, squeaky toys, ear scratches, a name of her own and the pride of wearing a brand new collar! Doggie Makeovers!

The transformations are remarkable, both physically and behaviorally! The dogs from Puppy Haven Kennels arrive every week looking forward to a brighter future. As we bring the dogs to WHS, we find that these dogs have extraordinary needs. They have never had a toy, a treat or their own bed. They've never experienced the joy of human companionship. They require extra time, patience and a large amount of TLC to help them come out of their shells and start experiencing the life of love that they so deeply deserve. Dogs arriving from Puppy Haven need your help

The Wisconsin Humane Society reached an agreement to obtain and close the largest dog breeding facility in Wisconsin, ‘Puppy Haven.’ Nearly 1,200 dogs will be brought to WHS to start on the right path to a happy future. Although many of the dogs were healthy enough to go into adoption right after spay/neuter surgery, and more than 100 have been adopted in the past few days, others need extra help.

Meet Brigid and Jeffy, two beautiful dogs who are currently in our care, awaiting surgery that will help keep them on four legs! Jeffy is just a baby - a mere 12 weeks - and Brigid is a 1-year-old sweetheart whose tendency to nuzzle your neck makes your heart melt. Read their full story here.

Our goal is to find homes for four hundred cats during the month of July, in addition to loving families for lots of dogs and small animals, too. As part of the celebration inspired by Independence Day, every adopter has the opportunity to receive terrific prizes and free stuff!

· Adopt any cat whose coloring is red, white or blue and receive a free gift and a certificate to attend a free Cat Behavior Seminar! Even if your new cat is wearing an item in one of those three colors, you will receive a gift. These adorable kittens, who range in age from 10-12 weeks, are just a few of the many young cats available for adoption right now at WHS. Roxie will have your neighbors all inquiring about your stunning new family member. This Labrador Retriever/German Shepherd mix has a gorgeous, shiny black coat with beautiful beige and brown markings. Her chocolate brown eyes will melt your heart, especially if accompanied by her ears perking up! Roxie knows cues such as "sit" and "down"; she will likely learn new skills very fast.

Roxie is a fun, happy girl who appreciates a tennis ball with a good bounce to it. At only 1.5 years old, she thinks everything is fun, interesting and needs to be played with - especially you! Sweet Senior: Meet Alfie

Alfie has a lot going for him: charm, charisma, good looks and warm brown eyes that will melt your heart. He doesn't have a family to call his own, though, so this 8 1/2 year old Shetland Sheepdog/Terrier mix waits patiently for someone who will cherish all he has to offer. When you visit Alfie, he's apt to roll over on your lap, inviting a belly rub. Extremely affectionate, Alfie will keep you company on the couch and will likely bond quickly with his new family.

A senior dog like Alfie is a great option for a lot of people. Senior dogs have personalities that are much more established than a puppy's; seniors are often housetrained and sometimes know cues like "sit," "down" and "come." Best of all, many seniors, like Aflie, don't have crazy puppy energy and prefer strolls around the block to running 5 miles at dawn! Although he's 8 1/2, Alfie is in great health and looks forward to spending many years taking fun walks, playing with squeaky toys and watching movies with you!

Dream a little dream of Dreamer!

Dreamer is a sweet 11-year-old Brown and White Tabby cat who greets all visitors with lots of chin rubs. This striking feline has the most unusually-shaped green eyes that have amazing flecks of color. You simply must see this unique cat in person!

Dreamer prefers the company of people over toys, but is eager to accept the occasional salmon treat. She also enjoys lots of petting, particularly right behind her ears and on her forehead. Affectionate and gentle, Dreamer has a great personality.

Sarah's sea blue eyes are absolutely captivating, especially against her snow white fur. This 2-year-old Siberian Husky mix doesn't just depend on her good looks, though! She is a very intelligent, curious and social girl. Sarah is thrilled to get visitors and loves to walk in the spring sunshine. Sarah came to us as a stray and she's hoping to start a new life with an active family or guardian interested in training, exercising and bonding with their new pal! Siberian Huskies often do well with other dogs because they are so social and friendly, so Sarah might be a great dog to have your own pup meet! Bongo never pounds on the drums or makes much noise, except for the occasional squeal of delight when you allow him to climb onto your lap for a intensive belly rub session! It's surprising that this stunning Australian Shepherd mix is only 7 months old, because he has a rather mature disposition. He's thoughtful, kind and always polite with strangers. He's curious but cautious in his explorations around our neighborhood and doesn't pull hard on the leash or jump up on strangers. Bongo always delights in returning to his suite for a cuddling session afterwards, too!

Comet has one of those amazing personalities. He's a confident, up-front kind of guy who immediately comes up and introduces himself. He seems to be oblivious that he's so handsome and unique-looking. His markings include blue patches of fur that create cool shapes on his back. Comet's face looks like it's been painted!

Comet was previously declawed, so it's especially imperative that he always stays indoors where he'll be safe. He seems to get along well with his roommate and would likely adjust fine to a home with another cat. This photo, actually, was taken when Comet was concerned about a little kitten meowing next door (the kitty was a bit lonely because her sister had just been adopted, but she went home moments later, so no worries!). Still, Comet stood up on his hind legs to make sure she was okay!
